Fixing the foundation: is now the right time?

Pause is not a vibe. It is an assessment of metrics, constraints, and whether you can afford not to.

If you are thinking about pressing pause to set a digital product up for the long term, start with a thorough look at the current platform. That is not a hunt for faults. It is a map of where you are, so you can say where you need to go.

This is part 2. Part 1 is Why (and how) you need to fix the foundation.

Align the product with the business

Key metrics

What OKRs or business metrics are actually driving the next steps? Are they realistic given the platform you have?

Revenue and growth

If growth has stalled or cycles are slow, the foundation may be what is stopping you from moving with the market.

Constraints

Budget, time, team. Be honest or the plan is fiction.

Strategic commitments

Is there a long-term plan a transformation would knock? Chasing short-term patches that you will redo is expensive. Doing both at once is usually worse.

Aligning the product’s growth with the business is how transformation turns into something you can measure, not a slogan about quality.
